  Golfing with the Beastmaster

I've been fortunate in my career to be able to play with and teach golf to some of the most famous people in the world of entertainment(television, movies, music), sports and business and politics.

Recently, I was talking with my friend actor Marc Singer who's done it all for over 30 years in the world of movies, television, broadway as well as writing and directing. We met late last year in Palm Springs, California throught a good friend of ours actress Tanya Roberts( Former Charlie's Angels, Bond Girl, currently on That 70's show) while we were filming a pilot for a golf tv show.Marc has a cult following for movies like"V" and the"Beastmaster"in which he and Tanya starred in the mid 1980's.

Marc had just gotten back to playing golf after a long layoff when we got together.Working with Marc was a real pleasure because he's a very intelligent guy and a terrific athlete.During my stay in Palm Springs I was able to speak with Marc in great depth to get to know him and how he approached his craft. This gave me valuable insight in how to communicate with him to help him ascertain information regarding his golf game.He was easy to work with and took direction well because of his training as an actor. He always had well thought out questions and wasn't interested in band-aid solutions for a quick fix.It was fun having good dialogue going with a person that knew how to interact and listen well to the person he was dealing with as we both benefitted from the situation. My goal is to make Marc's next role his greatest. That being a golfer!

Having only a short few days to work with Marc and Tanya was the only drawback because they are avid sports people and passionate about whatever they are doing.I built some solid yet, simple fundamentals for them both that were easily repeatable without delving into too much depth because of time constraints.Contrary to popular belief you would think that the actor and his co-star who played amazonian types in their cult classic movie"Beastmaster" would try to kill the ball with barbarian force.Well, the opposite happened as they both played within themselves and did a fine job of hitting some great shots with very littlle practice. It goes to show you that if you practice the correct things you can start to see the light at the end of tunnel a lot quicker than you imagined. The "Beastmaster" isn't the "Parmaster" yet, however given some more time together working with them I believe Marc and Tanya would become some of the better Celebrity golfers playing on the charity golf circuit. In the meanwhile, I look forward to seeing Marc and Tanya in 2005.If your having a charity golf event and need two well known personalities to show up for your event that play the game I highly recommend them.Marc and Tanya are entertaining and your guests will enjoy their company. The title character's name Marc played in the movie 'Beastmaster" was called"Dar".In the near future people might be calling Marc by his new golfing name of "Par".

Golf joke of the week: A middle aged couple was finishing putting out when a golf ball whizzed by,narrowly missing them and landing behind the green. The wife was furious and stomped back to confront the golfer."Listen, that last shot of yours almost hit my husband." "I'm very sorry,"replied the woman, and then pointed to her partner."Here, take a shot at mine". Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
