Golfers Need to Stay in Motion

My experiences over the years teaching golf to all level of players has lead me to some general observations, and ones that affect all of us. For example, I have taught numerous professional athletes from other pro sports, yet when they take up golf it becomes very frustrating to them, and they aren't able to excel to the degree that they had in their own particular sport. Yet, with patience and the proper understanding of what they are attempting to do they will have better success.

This brings us back to the original point. Why is golf so difficult for everyone? Well, first of all sports are based on body motion and golf is a sport. After analyzing the body motions in other sports, I am convinced there are some reasons golf is so frustrating to professional athletes from other sports as well as many golfers.

First, body position - the body is facing parallel to the target. Second, the eyes are on the ball and not on the target. Third, starting the swing from a stationary position . With the body facing parallel to the target, the body motion is more difficult than if the body is facing the target.

With the eyes on the ball, the player becomes more ball conscious which will encourage body motion to the ball instead of the target. The ball is not your target.

Starting the swing from a stationary position is also a major cause of problems in the swing. It's always easier to continue a motion than start one. Which leads me to a very simple answer for all these errors I mentioned.

Get some part of your body in motion prior to starting your swing, and project to your target, not the ball. Golf is a game of motion, not a series of abrupt actions.
